Chalmers University of Technology's graduate program in Architecture (MPArch) mainly offers three application directions: Architecture and Urban Design. The studio directions in MPArch are mainly divided into: parametric design, urban design, and architectural design. The parametric studio is called Material and Detail, where each semester focuses on the study and design of a specific material, with the final result being a 1:1 model. This direction requires a high level of proficiency in parametric design, particularly using Rhino/Grasshopper. The architectural design direction is more traditional but has a distinct Nordic character, with a focus on residential and healthcare architecture. One of Chalmers' strengths in architectural design is healthcare architecture, and many students choose the hospital studio each semester, which offers opportunities to collaborate with large architectural firms in Sweden for healthcare building design. A particularly unique studio is called MSS (Matter, Space, Structure), where students use a comprehensive design approach to select their own topics for research. The design outcomes can be either architectural design or art installation design.
