Admission Requirements

While the specific admission requirements for each program can vary, generally the following criteria apply:

​1. Master of Architecture (MArch)

  • You must have successfully completed an Australian architecture-specific Bachelor degree (or an equivalent overseas qualification).
  • ​Admission is competitive and will be based on your grades and portfolio.

2. Master of Urban Design (MUD)

  • You must have successfully completed an Australian Bachelor degree (or an equivalent overseas qualification) in architectural design, landscape architecture, or a related design discipline.

3. Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA)
You must have successfully completed:

  • The Bachelor of Landscape Architectural Design from RMIT University with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 (out of 4.0) or above.
  • OR an Australian Bachelor degree (or an equivalent overseas qualification) in architecture, landscape architecture, or a related design field. Admission will be competitive and based on your grades and portfolio.

 

Language Requirements

  1. ​IELTS (Academic)
    Minimum overall band of 6.5, with no individual band below 6.0.
  2. TOEFL (Internet-Based Test - iBT)
    Minimum overall score of 79, with minimum scores of:
    13 in Reading
    12 in Listening
    18 in Speaking
    21 in Writing
  3. Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic)
    Minimum score of 58, with no communication band less than 50.
  4. Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)
    Minimum overall score of 176, with no individual component below 169.

Application Materials

  • ​Certified Academic Transcripts - Certified copies of academic transcripts from all qualifications undertaken. The transcripts must list the subjects and grades achieved, printed on the official paper or letterhead of the institution.
  • Certified Graduation Certificate / Enrollment Proof / Degree Proof​ - Certified copies of all graduation certificates in both the original language and in English. The official certificate must state the full title of the qualification, date of completion, and the graduate's name on official paper or letterhead from the institution.
  • IELTS/TOEFL (can be submitted after application)​ - You may not need to submit IELTS/TOEFL scores at the time of application.
  • Portfolio​ - A portfolio showcasing your work and design abilities.
  • Personal Statement (for MArch applicants)-  A statement outlining your motivation for applying to the program.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)​ - A CV including personal details, academic achievements, and professional experience (any current work experience).
  • Interview​ - An interview may be required for some programs.
  • Pre-selection Kit (for MLA applicants) - Required for applicants to the Master of Landscape Architecture program.

​Common Application Materials for Specific Programs​

  1. Master of Architecture (MArch) Requirements
    Portfolio: Submit a digital folio including images, drawings, sketches, paintings, models, photographs, and computer work. The folio must be in PDF format with a maximum of 30 pages and a file size of up to 10MB.
    Personal Statement: A one-page statement outlining your motivation for applying to the program.
    Curriculum Vitae (CV): Including your academic and professional experience.
    Interview: Record and submit a video addressing the following:
    Part 1: Introduce yourself and explain your motivations for pursuing the Master of Architecture.
    Part 2: Discuss the ideas and concepts behind the projects in your portfolio, how they were developed, and any influences that shaped your design ideas.
    Video: The video must be no longer than 4 minutes and should be uploaded to an external site (e.g., Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.).

  2. Master of Urban Design (MUD) Requirements
    CV: Including personal details, academic achievements, and professional experience.
    Portfolio: Submit a folio demonstrating your creative thinking, conceptual design, problem-solving, and technical skills. The folio should be a maximum of 30 pages in a PDF format and not exceed 10MB.
    Interview: Short-listed applicants may be required to attend an interview.
  3. Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) Requirements
    If you have completed the Bachelor of Landscape Architectural Design at RMIT University with a GPA of 2.5 or above, you are guaranteed entry into the program and do not need to submit a selection task.
    If you have a lower GPA or completed your degree at another institution, you must submit the Pre-selection Kit with your application. This kit includes basic personal information, as well as other details relevant to your academic and design background.

Portfolio Requirements

Your folio should include work from your undergraduate studies and, if available, professional projects. The portfolio must meet the following specifications:

  • Size: A3 or A4 formatContent:
    Maximum of 30 pages in color, containing a combination of images, drawings, sketches, paintings, models, photographs, and computer work, showcasing your personal creative/design projects. It should also include the concepts and ideas that led to the final design pieces.
  • File Upload:
    PDF: Upload your folio as a single PDF file, no larger than 10MB.
    URL: Alternatively, you can provide a URL to your folio if hosted online. If required, include a username and password to access the file.

Important Notes for Application

  • ​File Size Limit: Each file should be no more than 10MB. Larger files may fail to upload or become corrupted during the submission process.
  • Avoid File Sharing Websites:​  File sharing websites such as Dropbox or Google Drive are not recommended, as access to your files can become problematic.
  • Video Submission:If you are submitting a video, it is advised to upload it to platforms like YouTube or Vimeo and provide the corresponding link.
  • Apply Early:While there are no specific application deadlines, the number of available spots is limited. Be sure to apply as early as possible to increase your chances of admission.
