The University of Hong Kong (HKU)

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is one of the most prestigious and internationally recognized universities in Hong Kong and Asia, often regarded as the Ivy League of Asia. Established in 1911, HKU is the oldest higher education institution in Hong Kong.​

The Faculty of Architecture at HKU was founded in 1950, and the Master of Architecture (MArch) degree is recognized in Mainland China, Hong Kong, the UK, Australia, and other regions. Admission Requirements​

  1. ​Master of Architecture (MArch)
    The 3-year MArch program is designed for students with undergraduate degrees in fields other than architecture, providing them with a path to pursue architectural education.​
    For applicants with an undergraduate degree in a non-architecture field, the program duration is 3 years.​Students who are granted 60 credits of advanced standing can complete the program in 2 years.​
    For applicants with an undergraduate degree in architecture, the program duration is 2 years.​
  2. Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA)
    Applicants must have a Bachelor of Arts (Landscape Studies) or Bachelor of Arts (Architectural Studies) degree from the University of Hong Kong, or a similar degree from a comparable institution accepted for this purpose.​
  3. Master of Urban Design (MUD)
    Applicants must have a solid Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from a recognized university.
    Applicants must also satisfy the university's English language requirements​
  4. Language Requirements:​
    IELTS: Minimum score of 6.0 overall, with no band below 5.5.​
    TOEFL: Minimum score of 80, with TOEFL Code 9671.​

Application Materials​

  • Language Test Scores (IELTS/TOEFL)
  • Official Translated Transcripts​
  • Portfolio: A portfolio with no more than 20 pages of creative work related to landscape orientation, in PDF format (cover and table of contents are not included in the page count).​
  • Written Statement of Interest: A statement (maximum 500 words).​
  • Two Letters of Recommendation: At least one letter from an academic advisor.​
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): Maximum length of 5 pages.
  • Application Fee.
  • Visa Copy.
