Alumni and Faculty Insights

UCL offers a wide range of postgraduate architecture programs, with the most popular master's programs being the Architecture Design MArch (AD) and Urban Design MArch (UD). The AD program focuses on exploring the integration of advanced architectural design with cutting-edge scientific and technological innovations. Technologies potentially used in the AD program include programming, robotic arms, AI, CNC machining, 3D printing, simulation, and interactive algorithms. In contrast, the UD program emphasizes large-scale urban spaces, with a greater focus on algorithms and programming in the application of technology compared to the AD program.

UCL's flagship architecture program is the Architecture (ARB/RIBA Part 2) program, which lasts for two years and grants certification for the second part of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Admission to this program typically requires a one-year foundation course. Reportedly, the application process for Part 2 may undergo changes this year, with the potential cancellation of the foundation course and stricter requirements for work experience and portfolio quality in the application process. The UCL Part 2 program remains a pinnacle destination for global architecture master's applicants, with exceptionally high application and academic requirements.

In addition, UCL offers other specialized programs such as Architectural Computation, Architecture and Digital Theory, Bio-Integrated Design (Bio-ID), Performance and Interaction Design (DFPI), and Design for Manufacture (DFM). Each of these programs emphasizes different intersections of architecture with other disciplines. For example:

Architectural Computation focuses on algorithmic and code-assisted design.

Bio-ID explores the integration of biology with architecture and design.

DFPI focuses on performance, interaction, and installation design.

DFM investigates digital construction methods such as CNC machining and robotics.

Overall, UCL’s Bartlett School of Architecture offers excellent facilities, extensive platforms, and a top-ranking professional reputation with a wide range of program options. It is an ideal graduate school destination for architecture students.
